Wednesday was a bittersweet day for Georgia. On one hand, the Dawgs lost one of their top offensive threats when TE Orson Charles decided to forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft. However, on the other hand, Georgia received news that Bacarri Rambo, Shawn Williams, and Cornelius Washington have all decided to return to Georgia for the 2012 season.

Say what you want about Kirby Smart's ability to recruit, but Todd Grantham just showed the rest of the SEC that he can pull 5-star recruits from anyone.

There is no doubt that Todd Grantham's defense was one of the big reasons Georgia was able to go from 6-7 to SEC East Champion with a 10-4 record.
When you hire a new defensive coordinator, you understand understanding and attrition will effect how a defense performs in year 1. That is why in year 2 a defense sees a dramatic improvement. For Todd Grantham's 3-4, you could see it every game that players understood more and they played faster.

If you would have asked last year who would be considered the better coordinator between Charlie Weis and Todd Grantham, you'd say Charlie Weis. If you asked who was better between Gus Malzahn and Todd Grantham, you'd say Malzahn. However, through 10 games this year, Grantham has faced both of those offensive geniuses and, twice, Grantham has came out on top in dominating fashion.

All season long, we've seen the continuing progression of Todd Grantham's defense. Throughout this entire season, we've remained objective about Georgia's defense. The biggest things I have continued to say is that Todd Grantham needed a signature win. Saturday night, Grantham and the Dawgs got that win.

To the average football fan, we can obviously tell that Georgia's defense has played extremely better than 2010. In the past two games, vs. SEC opponents, the defense has played well enough to mask any offensive mistakes and keep the games out of reach for the opponents.
