Hate Week Items to Get Your Blood Boiling

Growing up in Savannah, Georgia Tech was hardly ever mentioned as Georgia's "rival." Sure, it was the annual game between the state's top two schools, but, Georgia Tech... a rival? The majority of my life, and all through my college career, we hardly ever lost to GT. Hell, between the time I graduated college and the time I graduated from UGA and went into grad school in Athens... we NEVER lost to Georgia Tech.

Then... in 2008, it happened. We lost to GT. I thought it was bad... then... I moved to Atlanta for the last 2 years. Needless to say, that year was the worst of my Bulldog life. I never understood this rival until I actually met some of their smug, arrogant, ridiculously over confident fan base. For a program with a long history of mediocrity, those bugs sure are over confident.

This year, I've been back in Savannah and the bugs have gone away after 2 years of winning and setting the world right. However, this week, they come back. Maybe it is the unseasonably warm weather, but the bugs are back. For my Savannah and South Georgia Dawgs, I just wanted to post some old videos and pictures to remind you - GT is the MOST HATED rival for the University of Georgia!

From the guy who sucker punched the QB from VT:

"Attaochu is a sophomore from Washington, but didn't require much indoctrination into the Tech-Georgia rivalry.

"We know what's going on in the state of Georgia, how people flock to UGA for whatever reason," he said. "I don't know [why]; I'm from D.C. But when I came, I just didn't like ‘em. It just came in my blood, too. I understand. We're going to put our best foot forward, for sure, next week."

Finally, a friend of mine sent me this video from the 1992 half-time show. With Georgia's new "G" logo on the field, the GT band decided to cover it up with a GT tarp. Insanity starts.

Thanks for posting these. I needed to get my hate going this week!

What can we say? Dooley was right, when you actually hold your school to academic standards regarding athletes, it's harder to compete. 73.5% of UGA's athletes in general (not specifically football) are academic exceptions, while Tech's boast the highest average SAT's and GPA's in the country. Way to do your part keeping the student in student athlete. Congratulations though, you have won a lot of football games. That's what's important in life. I'm sure a lot of your football players working in the post office (as your own defense attorney said in the Jan Kemp case) are proud that UGA was able to help them read and write.

I know, we get the holier than thou talk about academics from GT fans, however, please do a little bit of research prior. In terms of football, for the past 6 years, the University of Georgia has scored a higher rate than Georgia Tech - 2004-2005 UGA: 950 GT: 948 // 2005-2006 UGA: 963 GT: 959 // 2006-2007 UGA: 965 GT: 951 // 2007-2008 UGA: 975 GT: 957 // 2008-2009 UGA: 973 GT: 967 // 2009-2010 UGA: 976 GT: 966. So, please, spare me the holier than thou academic crap. You can view it yourself at: http://web1.ncaa.org/maps/aprRelease.jsp

Do you not recall this: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2227377 Get off your high horse,

You do know that APR was made to help schools in the SEC look good to avoid being embarassed by the fact that they're getting joke degrees right? You also know that Tech's probation was due to an admitted and charged administrative oversight right? APR is based on grades, progression, and retention, things that Tech suffers for because it's classes are harder. I'm not trying to be holier than thou, I'm just pointing out the facts. That Dooley said it's harder to compete and Tech is proving it. Hell maybe if UGA started oversigning like the rest of its cheating SEC teams (something to be proud of) they would be more competetive more often. As it is they're only good due to the academic exceptions they allow, which vanderbilt (perennial doormat) does not. Just accept it, you guys are whoring out young men who you admit won't amount to much after their done at UGA for the sake of 80,000 fans every saturday in the fall. Bra-effing-vo

Just thought I'd point out some flaws in your "facts." - "Avoid being embarassed by the fact that they're getting joke degrees right?" - Fact or subjective opinion? Just thought I'd throw this out there as well: "At Georgia Tech, almost 70% of the football team majors in management – dubbed the “M Train” by Yellow Jacket students." Business Insider Article: http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-09-07/sports/30128875_1_graduation-trey-burton-bcs#ixzz1eXbX6C25 My favorite is the quote by the Tech center... yes, in college, you have to go to class. "Maybe they'd be competitive more often." - So, 9 out of the last 10 years isn't competitive? "For the sake of 80,000 fans..." - You must have not gone to GT, otherwise, any engineer could see that Sanford holds over 90,000 - plus the other 1 million plus each week on television. Any other "facts" you want to discuss???

Yeah the fact that Tech's business school is already rated higher than UGA's despite being brand new, and actually has a 90% job placement rating. It's actually a degree that is worth something. Besides how many of your athletes are going to school for a business degree? Apples to oranges my friend. http://www.businessweek.com/interactive_reports/bs_ugrank_tab_0303.html http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-business-schools/mba-rankings/page+2 (you'll find UGA on page 3 of that list ---^) http://www.forbes.com/lists/2011/95/best-business-schools-11_rank.html Forbes has UGA and Tech neck and neck and Tech's College of Management has only been its on entity since 1989. The M-Train gets a bad rap because it's easier than engineering, but it still demands fundamental understanding of math and economics. It's funny you point out that you have to go to class, because that's something 3 UGA athletes didn't do and still got A's in the basketball program. BTW UGA earned those 3 scholarships they lost due to that event back on appeal...while Tech got put on 4 years of probation and lost 6 scholarships for an administrative error. I'm talking about competetive within the SEC. I'm sorry but contrary to popular opinion GT folks don't obsess over every minute detail of UGA due to an inferiority complex. I didn't memorize your stadium's size, I apologize.

You sure you don't obsess? Because according to your last couple of ranting posts, you sure have an obsession with our school's rankings, history, etc - not even athletics. But, just to continue to compare rankings - how about UGA's Executive MBA program ranks 18th in US and 22nd worldwide. GT's - Unranked. (http://www.businessweek.com/interactive_reports/bs_2011embarank_1110.html) If you want to continue to compare schools, we can keep going all day. But, we're talking about athletes and classes - believe me, there's "that degree" for every university, so, again, don't give me that holier than thou crap! Oh, just to go into this "administrative error" here is a little bit from the NCAA Investigation on Thomas and Burnett: "AGA STAFF: Who gave them to you? STUDENT-ATHLETE 1: My cousin 'cause he got a roommate named (roommate's nick name) and he, I think, I don't know if he worked at the Adidas place or not but I know he the one that gave them to us. He the one that, um, said, he was, like, my friend got ya'll an early Christmas present, and he was talking about (the roommate). AGA STAFF:Okay. Was it kinda, like, you said they, this was, like, an early Christmas present, I mean, was it wrapped up or anything or did they have it all laying out? STUDENT-ATHLETE 1: No. It was just in a room. AGA STAFF: Why, um, why did (the roommate) want to give this to ya'll? Why did, I mean, why is he giving ya'll an early Christmas present? STUDENT-ATHLETE 1: I don't. I, I really don't know. AGA STAFF: What's, help me understand. STUDENT-ATHLETE 1: Maybe, I don't. I really don't know. AGA STAFF: Who did? STUDENT-ATHLETE 1: I don't even know if (the roommate), like, actually knows the (owner of the sports agency). I don't even know if he know him, but, um. I know since (the agency employee) and (the roommate) was homeboys since when they were, when they were, I mean, whenever. I would guess he get us some stuff to maybe going away or looking towards (the agency employee) and them if we wanting to sign to an agent I guess." You can read the full report here: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/da72c7804796564988b7dcc110a6426c/20110714+GA+Tech+Public+Infr+Report.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&CACHEID=da72c7804796564988b7dcc110a6426c Doesn't sound like an "administrative error" to me.

sorry thought you were talking about the probation which actually had to do with academics since that was the topic of our discussion, I didn't think to actually click the link you provided. Yeah ok he accepted $300 of clothes...then returned them with the tags. It was a stupid thing to do. The NCAA and ACC actually said he would be eligible to play, what they didn't like was the fact that the AD told Coach Johnson when they said don't tell anyone about the investigation, not a smart thing to do either...It just goes to show if you make money for the NCAA by selling tickets and jerseys like Alabama who simply wrote a cease and decist letter to its booster who was giving out free suits to Julio Jones...you're ok, but if you take and give back $300 of clothes and you're a little guy, they've gotta come down hard on you to save face. It's all such a farce. Not saying we don't deserve it, but come on...look at the "crime" and look at the punishment...it's not adding up, especially when considering the ACC said he should be eligible when we asked.

Corporate Executives with 15+ years of work experience apply for Executive MBA programs...not undergrads...the more appropriate comparison is the one I provided which compares undergrad Management programs.

Fine, how about CURRENT students, undergrads. Bloomberg's Top Undergraduate Business Programs: UGA - #44 in the nation. GT - #55 in the nation. http://www.businessweek.com/interactive_reports/undergrad_bschool.html

You can call it holier than thou, or you can be a big boy and call it the truth. The SEC started this trend with Paul Bear Bryant and is dragging the rest of the college sports world down with it. It's all about the money and not about the athletes. It's all about people who have no business associating with certain schools getting all riled up because they live in the state that has that school's name or the area of that school. No longer is it about school vs. school it's become area vs. area and as such is more semi-pro than minor league baseball. You can continue to plug your fingers in your ears, because the school you love so much is one of the flagbearers of this, but I'm not going to let people say I'm being sanctimonious when the truth is out there in plain writing. Crowell can barely read and write, have you seen the kid's facebook? And he is your starting running back...this is what it's come to. So you can either support that type of behavior as you do as a UGA fan and ticket buyer, or you can hate it as I do as a Georgia Tech fan and ticket buyer.

Ok, so you knock on Crowell, yet you realize, they are kids like that in EVERY school - even, "the almighty" Georgia Tech. For example, just look at Embry Peeple's twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/eptheSLAYER): "#Dear women us men can't live with out yall n yall can't live without us let's meet halfway n TAKEOFF like we are ment too" - 14mins ago "«@CPACMANE_MG @eptheSLAYER CNT HANG LIL NIGGA»CHILL HAD LIKE 13 SHOTS BROWN N CLEAR N LIKE 4 OR 5 CUPS" 14 hours ago (wonder what he is doing this week and he's your starter???) «@Askronaut That awkward moment when you finish your paper and realize it ain't long enough»lmao lmao enlarge font n spacing bro" 21 Nov (Sounds look sound education tactics there) Look, you GT fans need to realize, you are in the exact same boat as every other school - you just are not as successful as others. Therefore, in order to not admit it to yourself, you beat your chest about academics and how GT does it the "right" way and everyone else cheats - give me a break. GT is a tech and engineering school with tons of brilliant students. UGA is a liberal arts institution with degrees ranging from business to education to science. GT has a great engineering program, great. Georgia has a great law program, awesome. The two schools ARE apples and oranges. However, don't try and throw athletes in there and say how much better - and yes, holier than thou - Georgia Tech is compared to Georgia. There are good players mixed with the bad. I support UGA because I went there, I love the university, the city of Athens, and the state school of the great state of Georgia. I don't hate Tech because of it's school's traditions or academics - I hate Tech because their fans are arrogant, obnoxious, and cannot admit that when it comes to it, Georgia Tech pales in comparison to the University of Georgia on the football field.

Why do Tech fans care more about UGA than they do about Georgia Tech. It’s ridiculous. That car they drive on the field reads ‘To Hell with Georgia’ on the flags year round. They perform the ‘What’s the good word’ cheer regardless of who they are playing. They have an entire issue of their student newspaper dedicated to making fun of UGA. They get rings for beating us one year out of ten. Year round, I see bumblers’ Facebook statuses end with ‘THWG.’ Their little profile pictures and tag lines in their forum you posted yesterday are dedicated to downgrading UGA rather than glorifying GT. It’s pathetic. But I guess it’s somewhat understandable – it’s easier to hate a university with a legitimate athletic program than it is to cheer for a mediocre one.

Crickets???

I was at the 1992 game and enjoyed booing the entire performance by the band....that was great.

Also, it's funny that the Tech nerd with the sign attacking our intelligence makes a mistake: "Georgian's".......
